Not All Small Caps | Stock Market Investing
In yesterday's post I pointed out the rally in the Russell 2000 small cap stock index. While the index was down slightly for most of the day, it rallied at the close on good volume. Here's the picture at 30-minute intervals for the exchange traded fund IWM which tracks the Russell 2000. Note the nice uptick in volume as the price rallied.

On the other hand, not all small cap stocks are powering forward, relative to large caps. Yesterday I compared the Russell 2000 to the Russell 1000 to show the favorable break-out in the small caps. There's no such thing going on in Nasdaq. The 100 biggest stocks (NDX) still dominate in relative strength. Note how NDX is above its 50-day moving average and the composite (COMPQ) is below it.
